Indian Coast Guard’s 2-hour chase to rescue fishermen caught by Pakistani patrol

The Indian Coast Guard (ICG) on Sunday rescued seven fishermen who were caught by a Pakistani ship near the India-Pakistan Maritime Boundary after a chase of over two hours, defence officials said. Officials claimed that despite efforts by the Pakistan Maritime Security Agency (PMSA) ship to retreat, the fishermen were successfully rescued and are all in stable medical condition.
During the chase, the Indian Coast Guard made it clear to the Pakistani ship that under no conditions would it let them capture the fishermen from the fishing boat ‘Kaal Bhairav’ from Indian waters, defence officials further explained. However, ‘Kaal Bhairav’ was damaged and sunk amid the incident.
The ICG received a distress call at 3.30 pm on Sunday from an Indian boat operating near the No-Fishing Zone (NFZ) informing them that a fisherman on board ‘Kaal Bhairav’ had been caught by a Pakistani ship. Following the call, the ICG proceeded to the location to rescue the fishermen.
”Despite efforts by the PMSA ship to retreat, ICG Ship intercepted the PMSA ship and persuaded them to relieve Indian fishermen. The ICG ship was able to retrieve the seven fishermen safely, who were all found to be in stable medical condition. Unfortunately, the Indian fishing boat Kal Bhairav was reported to have been damaged and sunk during the incident,” the ICG in a statement said.
The ICG also shared a video, showing the Indian ship chasing the Pakistani ship in its attempt to take the fishermen to Pakistan.
After rescuing the fishermen, the ICG ship returned to the Okha Harbour on November 18, where a joint investigation involving the ICG, state police and intelligence agencies was undertaken to investigate the circumstances leading to the collision and the subsequent rescue operation.
